Hello everyone ! ❤️ Salam Sejahtera ! ❤️ Ni Hao ! ❤️ Vanakkam ! ❤️
We would like to start by thanking you for taking the time to read us and for helping us out.
Meet The Team
Team MeCe is a young team of dedicated, hardworking and passionate individuals from Taylor's University School of Engineering.
Our mission is to encourage college students to have a healthier lifestyle by educating and supplying good nutrition to students. Team MeCe aims to empower Taylor University students to reach their full potential by having the energy and good health needed to accomplish their life goals.
About Project Fruity Uni
According to the Malaysian Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (FAMA), Malaysians are eating fewer fruits and the young people do not even know the kind of fruits and vegetables available in the country. Malaysians only eat 63 kg of fruits per capita annually or about 5 kg monthly. This is eight times less than the annual 400 kg per capita of consumption recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Project Fruity Uni is an initiative kickstarted by Team MeCe to raise funds for the acquisition of fruits to be distributed in a small package for breakfast to students within Taylor’s University in an effort to raise awareness on the importance of eating fruits to obtain nutrients as well as to including fruits as part of their breakfast in the morning.
Based on a conducted survey by us, we managed to identify a major issue that contributes to the statistics above - a busy and hectic schedule of a student. While in college a student can easily become overwhelmed by a schedule that is busier than he or she is accustomed to. Having classes as early as 8.00a.m. causes many students to skip breakfast or simply consume fast food just to be in time for classes whilst avoiding the traffic congestions ( peak hours especially in Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong and Federal Highway). Fast foods have high content of fats, free sugars and salt/sodium that is detrimental to a student's health. Without fruit consumption, students are deficient in most vital nutrients, vitamins and minerals for our health.
Our Goal
Our goal is to ensure each and every student receive sufficient nutrients, vitamins and minerals. Fruits have high nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants which will help slow aging and reduce the risk of disease
Throughout the whole project, sliced fruits will be prepared, packaged and distributed to as many students at Taylor University. The fruits will play a role in keeping their brains healthy and can improve specific mental tasks, such as memory and concentration (especially helping them get through the first few hours of morning classes!) Students who eat fruits as part of an overall healthy eating style are likely to have a reduced risk of some chronic diseases.
To encourage lifelong learning, notes about fruit facts and the benefits of consuming fruits would be attached to packaged fruits before distributing them to Taylor's University students.
The risk and challenges faced in this project are inevitable. However, it will become opportunities for us to motivate ourselves and work harder together to create solutions to improve.
